Our lives are so hectic these days, it’s often hard for us, as parents, to make the necessary time for our children. Guaranteed though, there’s nothing else your child would love more of than your time! So, try to rise half-an-hour earlier in the morning so that you have time to play, talk and eat with your child.
Bad behavior is often a sign that you aren’t spending enough time with your child or giving them the attention they deserve. Children generally behave badly as a way of just getting our attention. Nine times out of ten, the cure for bad behavior is making more time for your child and communicating more.
Try to set-aside a night in the week just for you and your child to do something together. This might just be sitting down together and watching a movie on a Friday night, perhaps allowing them to stay up a little later than usual. Try to schedule these times and make them a regular event, every week perhaps, so that your child has something to look forward to.
Such attention is critical for children in their younger years. You will probably find that during their teens, when they are more socially active, that they require less and less of this one-on-one time. This doesn’t mean to say that your teen will not require any parental attention, certainly not. They will likely call on you when then need it, so try to be flexible with them and give-up your time as and when required.
